A 2500 lb winch can pull a small, rolling car on a flat surface. However, it would be insufficient for recovering a vehicle that is stuck, on an incline, or for larger trucks. For professional recovery, a much higher capacity winch, like our 9,000 lb or 12,000 lb models, is necessary for safety and effectiveness.

Safe winching involves anchoring the winch vehicle securely, running the cable in as straight a line as possible to the object, and using appropriate rigging like tree-saver straps and D-rings. Ensure all bystanders are clear of the cable's path. For angled pulls or to increase power, a snatch block is recommended. Always follow the manufacturer's safety guidelines.

Hand winches typically have much lower pulling capacities, generally ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 pounds. They are suitable for smaller tasks like moving logs or tensioning fences but lack the power of hydraulic winches.
